Fall Fashion Trends Worth Falling For
It’s officially the middle of September that means it’s finally appropriate for me to talk fall fashion.
But before we begin, how have you been? How was your summer?
In my humble opinion, fall is the Peter Kavinsky of all seasons for fashion. See what I did there… (Also shout out to Peter Kavinsky for setting my standards up high once again. Yes, I know he’s fictional, and no, I have not lost the plot.)
Fall for me is where my love for neutrals goes into overdrive, even as I write this I’m in a monochrome grey outfit. And the desi girl in me is obsessed with Indian attire for that perfect Diwali Instagram.
Normally my fall/autumn wardrobe consisted of just black skinny jeans from Uniqlo, an assortment of flannel shirts, leather jacket, and boots. If I was on campus or out of the house running errands, this staple wardrobe was sufficient. But 2018, is honestly the year of change for me. So this year I’m embracing more trends of the season and not just the fall basics. Yes, there are still a few trends that I don’t think I would incorporate such as the oil spill trend which looks like shiny velvet. I don’t think wearing a velvet top in a shocking magenta purple blend in going to bode well on an everyday basis. Another trend that I am personally skeptical about is the return of the animal print especially prints like the zebra. Yes, there was a time back when the Cheetah Girls existed and I was obsessed with them and thus had slippers and makeup bags in the combination of cheetah print and faux pink fur. Oh, the things we think to be cool as a preteen. I am sure that there are many who can carry this trend with confidence, I just don’t have the confidence to do so… yet.
But let’s get on to to the juicy bits of fall fashion that I am falling for. (I know it’s a basic fall pun but I can’t help it… it makes me laugh every time #quirkyhumor)
Chain-print
I generally am not one to wear too many prints especially as busy as seen in this blouse by Zara (Chain Patchwork Print Blouse). But the vibe of this is really retro and I love that. I love mixing a bit of retro/ vintage vibe with a more modern spin.

In stores, here, I have yet to see H&M’s take on the trend, but until then Zara has enough to experiment with, such as this blouse and the printed scarf (below); but also for those ready to take the complete plunge into the chain print galore, there are jumpsuits and bomber jackets to name a few options.
Mustard Yellow
I know it’s a classic but I have never been convinced that mustard was my color. But this t-shirt… holy “swear word” (Mendes Army you know the reference) It’s a normal crew neck in the first glance but it is so much more. Because it is of a thicker material it’s much more structured than usual making this Uniqlo U Crew Neck T-shirt very comfortable. I even got it in a dull fuschia.

Though this mustard t-shirt paired great with my leather jacket and black skinny jeans (hello old school fall basics), I kept it simple accessory wise by pairing it with aviators (Forever 21) and a chain print square scarf (Zara).

The Clueless vibe Gingham
Yes, by Harper’s Bazaar this is is called Saville Row, but for me, this is a complete reminder of Clueless. And what would be any conversation with me without a pop culture reference? As if…
I probably would not go fully into the Clueless vibe with the matching yellow skirt and blazer because let’s face it, we really aren’t in the 90s no matter how much anyone wishes to be. They were simple times, but you probably wouldn’t be here on #shopaholicsharika if we were in the 90s.

Keeping in touch with the neutral love, I’m going to probably stick with the Greys (oh my brain…)
Simultaneously, the 80s vibe is back with the neon colors and big shoulder pads. I’ll keep the neon to my nails but get into the 80s mode with this MTV Tshirt from H&M. I am still in love with band t-shirts so now my mission for this season is to find at least two more from the 80s.

I’m sure as the season progresses I will be experimenting more, I mean I would like to attempt all the trends in the September issue of Vogue both US and UK. Side note, they weighed an absolute ton.
Also, shoutout to Emima Mitani, (her Instagram: @emimamitani) for making this shoot so memorable, and to the people around me in Ginza who saw me dancing out to Shawn Mendes, Harry Styles, and Drake… I’m sorry but not so sorry. I hope you enjoyed the music people of Ginza.
So here’s to falling into fall… (yes it’s the last time I use the pun)
